Cinch Your Curves: Waspies and Waist Cinchers

Looking for something to give you that vintage hourglass shape, but don’t know what suits your figure? Read on!
Ever wondered how ladies in the Forties and Fifties created their wasp-waisted figures? Shapewear is the answer! Accentuating your bust, nipping in your waist and smoothing your hips, shapewear is the easiest way to create that hourglass silhouette.
If you’ve been looking at modern control underwear and thinking it’s not for you, fear not – vintage shapewear is very different! Unlike modern shapewear, which is often designed as a lightweight smoothing tube, our shapewear nips in and supports in all the right places to shape your figure. Our vintage shapewear is also beautiful to look at – so you’ll be feeling fabulous
Glamour Nouveau Waspie
Our Glamour Nouveau Waspie is one of our shapewear bestsellers! A petite waist cincher constructed in smoothing powermesh, with supportive satin tummy panels and six thin spiral steel bones to create shape. It’s an easy solution to creating a waist under pretty much every outfit. Particularly good if you’re quite petite due to its short length, it is also excellent to layer with other pieces to create a shaping solution tailored to you (here we’ve layered a Suspender Belt underneath it, but you could also wear a girdle over the top if you were looking to smooth down your hips). Perfect if you need something to give you a little shape under an outfit for a special occasion, its lightweight design means it is comfortable to wear all day long.
Glamour Waist Cincher
The ‘big sister’ of the Glamour Nouveau Waspie is the Glamour Waist Cincher. Longer in length, with six full length spiral steel bones and a cinching waist tape, the Glamour Waist Cincher is somewhere between the Waspie and a Corset in terms of control. As well as creating that Fifties-style wasp-waist, this Cincher offers a little more lower tummy support and firmer waist shaping. Coming right up to your bra, and down over your hip, it creates a very smooth line and hourglass finish. A front hook-and-eye closure means there's very little bulk under your outfit. It also comes with six detachable suspender straps, making it a very versatile piece.
Although we’re focusing on our Waist Cinchers and Waspies in this piece, we do have a quick word to say on our girdles. Girdles used to be the easy everyday shapewear of choice worn by women of all shapes and sizes under most of their daytime outfits. We make two styles of Glamour Girdles, our Glamour Longline Girdle and our Glamour Open Bottom Girdle, as well as lightweight Girdlettes which you can find in our Maitresse and Harlow collections. Our model here wears our Glamour Open Bottom Girdle, which we find tends to suit every figure. Starting at the waist, this girdle supports and smooths any lower tummy bulges, and shapes your derriere for a peachy perfect finish.
