Five Minutes With. . . Vanna Vicious

We take five minutes to ask drag queen, hairdresser and long-time WKD fan Vanna Vicious about all things glam!

Five Minutes With Interview | Drag Queen Vanna Vicious

Name: Vanna Vicious aka Jackson VonTrapp
Occupation: Drag queen & hairdresser

Describe your style in five words:
Skimpy, eccentric, sparkly, sexy-granny, vintage

What is your favourite piece in your wardrobe, why do you love it and where did you get it?
A white fox fur stole I purchased at Playclothes Vintage in Burbank. I live for furs, but only vintage fur. . .

Who or what is your inspiration?
The blonde bombshells of days past! Jayne Mansfield, Diana Dors, Marilyn Monroe, Mamie Van Doren, Jean Harlow, Kim Novak and Tippi Hedren, and of course Amanda Lepore. . . to name a few!

If you could borrow anyone’s wardrobe (living or dead) who’s would it be?
Definitely Amanda Lepore!

What’s the one thing you wouldn’t leave the house without doing?
I consider it one ritual, but gum and perfume. When meeting people and entertaining I think it’s just good manners to smell nice. Any spearmint gum will do but Gardenia by Elizabeth Taylor is my signature fragrance!

What’s your top tip for feeling confident?
Making sure my look or costume is unapologetically me!

What’s the last book you read?
Doll Parts by Amanda Lepore. She’s a living legend and her book is unapologetically her!

What’s your favourite song, band or piece of music?
This is the hardest question on this list! I suppose one song that will always resonate with me is Perfidia by Xavier Cugat. I feel its glamour and a touch of sadness, and it always gets me in the mood to be dramatic.

What three things could you not live without?
Oh gosh, being completely honest I’d have to say iPhone, Starbucks, and Marlboro Light 100s. I'm very grumpy with out these things, and no one likes a grumpy drag queen!

What's your biggest achievement to date?
Birthing my drag persona and getting over my stage fright!

What do you still want to achieve before the end of the year?
Taking my drag to the next level, whatever that might be.

Wild night out or cosy night in?
Depends who I am that night - Vanna never stays in I can say that!

Naughty French martini or green tea goodness?
A martini of course!

Dressed up or dressed down?
Vanna is always dressed up! Jackson loves sweat pants. . .

Skirts or trousers?
Both! Some times I feel very Nancy Sinatra, and some times I feel very K
atharine Hepburn. I never limit my self when it comes to style.

Introvert or extrovert?
Mostly extrovert.

Comedy or thriller?

Call or text?
Text, it’s the best way to actually get hold of me!

Truth or dare?
Truth! Always the truth Dahling!

True vintage or brand spanking new?
As much true vintage as I can squeeze these man shoulders into!

If I could change the world in one way I would. . .
Make it illegal to wear
camouflage. . . Not a Miss America answer but yuck, I hate it!

What advice would you give your 15 year old self?
Those who mind don’t matter, and those who matter don’t mind.
Also be nicer to your mother! She loves you very much.

I am happiest when . . . .
I’m surrounded by beauty! If I’m scouring a lovely vintage shop with gorgeous little vintage somethings all around me, or having a day at the Huntington Library in Pasadena, or being with all the beautiful creatures of the gay nightlife scene here in Los Angeles. Beauty is all around us and I love to be a part of it, feel it, and exude it!

What’s your favourite What Katie Did piece?
As of right now I’ll say my most recent purchase, the Padded Bullet Bra in peach! But my collection is growing and I might have a new favourite after my next trip to the Burbank Boutique. . .
